The Trail of Time

Status Closed

From Lake Osiglia to the old chestnut groves.

Why a trail of time? For a no rush excursion, where taking a break is the first necessary step to be able to properly look at our surroundings: birds, fish, frogs and toads, colourful flowers, and a wide variety of trees.

The illustrative panels along the way offer several insights including photos of the town that once was before being covered by the lake; a town that is now remembered through old photographs, some of whom were shot during one of the rare occasions when reservoirs were being emptied.

The route "Trail of Time”, from the Manfrin Bridge touches the picnic and Bertorelli areas: the first part of the woods you come across is characteristic and important in terms of habitat being made up of black alder trees, which are not common nowadays as they live only near water, where man has often replaced nature with buildings.

Following the "more yellow" signpost, through pine woods and mixed wood forest, the trail reaches Tecchio Gamba, with its ancient fruit chestnut trees. For those more seasoned hikers, this route can be completed by reaching Colle della Barossa and coming back towards the lake along forest tracks that run through the woods and heaths.

Here is where the streams that, with their waters, feed the lake are born. The flowing water still reminds us of the passing of time, the becoming of things, as a famous aphorism attributed to the Greek philosopher Heraclitus says: "Pánta rhei os potamòs" ("Everything flows like a river").

Be well equipped

Think about the duration and type of hike: what could you need? Waterproof clothing? Sun protection? Water? Appropriate footwear? For example, if you are thinking of visiting the caves or hiking to the top of a mountain, it might be a smart idea to dress in layers… even in summer!

Respect nature and the territory

Connect with nature, don’t litter nor be too loud and, as a general rule, respect the territory around you. Nature will thank you and so will we.

Bear in mind, don’t hog climbing routes, clean up chalk off holds after using them and don’t scatter your things around. It’s always a good idea to gather your belongings in one place.

If you are training on a pitch, use your own HMS

If you are training on a pitch and repeating it several times, it is best to use an HMS-type carabiner instead of threading it directly into the maillon to avoid its wear and tear.

Rappeling

Rappeling

In the “finalese” crags you rarely find fixed carabiners, therefore you’ll have to be able to do a particular type of rappel to lower off.

Wear a wetsuit or a t-shirt for water activities

Even in summer, it’s always best to wear a wetsuit or a t-shirt: they protect you from the sun, avoid the risk of hypothermia on longer outings and can be of great help in case of jellyfish.
