The event, organized by Guide del Golfo – Liguria in collaboration with La Baia del Sole Travel Agency and Hotel Miramare, celebrates the centenary of English writer David Herbert Lawrence's visit to Liguria.
D.H. Lawrence and Frieda: Love and Scandal on the Ligurian RivieraIn In
1925, Lawrence stayed with his wife, Frieda von Richthofen, at the prestigious Hotel Miramare in Spotorno. Frieda experienced a passionate affair with a local man during their stay—an episode that inspired the famous novel Lady Chatterley’s Lover. Liguria, already a favoured destination for English tourists and writers such as Byron, Dickens, and Shelley, became both the real and symbolic backdrop for their story.
Dramatized Guided Tour through the Creuze of Spotorno
During the tour, participants will be led by Guide del Golfo along a charming route through the historic center and the traditional creuze (narrow Ligurian paths) of the village. At various stops, actress Maria Rosa Marsilio, dressed in period costume, will portray “the beautiful Frieda,” recounting tales of passion, betrayal, and reflections drawn from the couple’s letters.
An immersive experience that combines itinerant theatre, cultural trekking, and historical storytelling—perfect for lovers of English literature and the authentic beauty of Liguria.
