Sanctuary Madonna della Guardia: trekking from Garlenda
A trek from Garlenda between nature and local tradition
A guided hike among the paths of the Ligurian hinterland, discovering the landscape and history of Garlenda, a characteristic village in the Lerrone Valley. The event is organized by Baia del Sole, in collaboration with the Pro Loco of Garlenda and Guide del Golfo, and offers a walk among hilly views, ancient hamlets and collective memory.
A path commemorating a historic event
Every year, on August 24, Garlenda residents participate in a commemorative walk to remember the February 23, 1887 earthquake, one of the most violent ever recorded in Liguria. The earthquake hit the Riviera di Ponente hard, causing severe damage and casualties, but Garlenda was miraculously spared.
Since then, the community has been keeping the memory of the incident alive with this hike, which concludes at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Guard on Mount Tirasso, where a religious service is held at 11 a.m.
Program of the day
7:00 a.m. - Meeting at Borgata Ponte (Garlenda)
7:15 a.m. - Departure of the hike
Along the way: scenic stops, stories and historical insights
10:30 a.m. - Arrive at the shrine, in time for the 11 a.m. church service
After Mass: recommended picnic lunch (paid for by participants)
Early afternoon: return to Garlenda along the same route
