TREKKING: BOTANY, WALKING & FOOD – HIKE TO FORTE SAN GIOVANNI
🌿Autumn is the season of fruits, both in cultivated countryside and in the Mediterranean scrub and uncultivated areas, where some wild herbs manage to produce their last tender, edible shoots before the cold weather arrives.
It is in this fascinating mix of environments that we will immerse ourselves, exploring not only botany, but also food and nutrition: smart snacks, wild foraging, and forgotten fruits waiting to be rediscovered.
We will be accompanied by Dr Francesca Magillo, botanist and Environmental Hiking Guide, and Dr Cristina Accornero, biologist and nutritionist.
📍Meeting point and times
- Meeting point at 2:30 p.m. at Piazza del Tribunale, Finalborgo
- Return at approximately 6.30 p.m.
⏱️Programm

The route follows the “Via Romana”, offering beautiful views over the citrus groves of the Aquila Valley.

We then climb up to Perti Alto, passing by the Church of the Five Bell Towers, before descending along the historic “Strada Regina”.

A stop at the Fort is planned along the way, including a visit to the Fort led by the Directorate, a visit to the garden, and a themed workshop.

- The hike is suitable for all types of walkers, including those who are not particularly fit.

- Cost of experience: The hike and workshop are included in the entrance ticket to the Fort: €3.00 full price, €2.00 reduced price, and free for visitors under 18.

- Within the registration form, non-CAI members must provide their first name, surname and tax code, which are required to activate the daily accident insurance.
