Double Loop of Perti Alto
- Status Open
- Area Finalese
Half-day hikes in the fantastic Area of Perti Alto passing through Castel Gavone to reach the Edera cave, one of the Wonders of our Region
The hike starts from Porta Reale in Finalborgo where we will happily return after about 4 hours.
We chose to ascend via the less known Sentiero delle Neviere, passing through Sottoripa and climbing up to the Church of the 5 Bell Towers (our Lady of Loreto).
In this first part of the route, the pavement is surrounded by gardens, olive groves, vineyards, citrus groves, and old rural buildings.
Upon reaching the Church of the 5 Bell Towers, one cannot resist taking a photo with Finalborgo in the background and the sea in the distance.
The route continues into the Valle Urta heading north until the fork that climbs below the cliffs of Mount Sordo.
From here starts the most interesting part from a naturalistic point of view: the cliffs that follow one after another, the many caves and cavities leave you spoiled for choice.
But even if you are not a climber, the thrill of admiring the cavity of the Edera Cave is unique; emerging from the dark tunnel, you are surprised by the blue circle surrounded by green trees and rewarded for the effort, not even much, that we made to reach the destination.
On the way back, we recommend completing the route by continuing along the slopes of the mountain until you reconnect with the road at Località San Bernardo.
For the return route, follow the famous Strada Beretta, which from Località Perti Alto skirts Castel Gavone and passes beside Castel San Giovanni, to arrive at the Historic Center of Finalborgo to enjoy a good ice cream cone.
