Val Maremola Trail

Status Open
Area Pietrese

The Val Maremola Trail is divided into two races. The first is a non-competitive 14km race with 700d+ that takes place mainly in the Tovo San Giacomo area, in a short but tough ring.

The second is the queen of 28km with 1600d+ that starts from the Palazzetto di Tovo San Giacomo. The route immediately climbs steeply towards the historic centre of 'Poggio' and then descends towards the area of 'Botassano' (Borgio Verezzi). The route climbs up again via paths and mule tracks towards the hamlet of Gorra di Finale Ligure, past which it heads towards the Church of San Martino, behind which it descends along a technical singletrack towards the Sentiero dei Carri Matti (Crazy Cart Trail) that takes us above the former quarry, from where there is a splendid panorama of the entire valley and the coast.

We then descend along mule tracks that lead to the centre of Verezzi until we reach Borgio; here we proceed along the Sentiero delle Ramate that leads to the so-called Quagliodromo del Monte Grosso. We are in the area between Tovo San Giacomo and Pietra Ligure; having reached the summit, we proceed along several ascents and descents before descending again towards Tovo San Giacomo.

It is here that the second part of the race begins, the toughest part because the legs have already covered about 20 km and we face the now famous "Bruxia Crava", a 2.5 km climb with 250d+. At the top, the runners find a continuous up and down that leads to the last descent that ends on the Valmaremola river. They ford the river and tackle the last stretch of the race, about 3km, which finally leads to the finish!

Be well equipped

Think about the duration and type of hike: what could you need? Waterproof clothing? Sun protection? Water? Appropriate footwear? For example, if you are thinking of visiting the caves or hiking to the top of a mountain, it might be a smart idea to dress in layers… even in summer!
