From 20th-Century Artists to Imelda Bassanello: Stories of Creativity at the Sanctuary
The Sanctuary of Savona is not only a place of faith and devotion, but also a village deeply connected with art and creativity. Throughout the 20th century, painters and sculptors chose to live and work in this valley, drawn by its secluded atmosphere, its landscape, and the everyday life of its inhabitants.

⏱️Programm
- The visit will begin in the studio of Imelda Bassanello, who has lived and worked at the Sanctuary since the 1970s. We will enter her creative world to discover her artistic journey, the techniques she uses, and the relationship she has developed over the years with the village and its community. The tour will continue with a selection of her works located at the Sanctuary, offering a glimpse into a bond that brings together art, place, and lived experience.

We will then visit the Eso Peluzzi Museum, dedicated to the painter who found the Sanctuary to be one of the most important places in his life and artistic career. Through the works on display, we will discover his view of the village’s inhabitants, workers, interiors, and landscapes of the valley: an intense and deeply engaged portrayal of a simple world, observed with great sensitivity.
- During the visit, we will also touch upon the work of other important artists who lived or worked at the Sanctuary, including the sculptor Arturo Martini and the painter Nenne Sanguineti Poggi.
- An itinerary through studios, artworks, and memories, discovering the Sanctuary as a meeting place for different generations of artists, from the early 20th century to contemporary creativity.
