LITERARY GUIDED TOUR: D.H. Lawrence in Spotorno
During the guided tour, you will discover how, in the 1920s, Spotorno became, almost without realizing it, the setting for an important literary plot, but above all for an intense love story.
The tour is promoted by the municipality of Spotorno to celebrate the centenary of the visit to Liguria by the famous English writer David Herbert Lawrence.
In 1925, Lawrence stayed with his wife Frieda Von Richthofen at the prestigious Hotel Miramare in Spotorno. Here Frieda experienced an overwhelming passion with a local man, the inspiration for the famous novel “Lady Chatterley's Lover.” Liguria, already a favorite destination for English tourists and writers such as Byron, Dickens, and Shelley, thus became the real and symbolic setting for their stories.
During the guided tour, a veritable literary walk, participants will be accompanied by the Gulf Guides along an evocative route that crosses the historic center and the “creuze” (narrow streets) of the village. At various points along the way, letters from the famous correspondence between Lawrence, Frieda, and their acquaintances of the time will be read. The common thread running through these letters is their love for the Riviera and Spotorno.
An engaging experience that combines history and literature, designed for those who love English literature and the authentic beauty of Liguria.
