Trail Maintenance Update – Back on Track After the Storms

In the past few weeks, following the heavy rainfall of May 20th, the trail builders of the Finale Outdoor Region have been working intensely to restore damaged trails and ensure they are once again safe and rideable—right in time for the peak tourist season.

As soon as the bad weather passed, a special monitoring plan was launched, coordinated by Simone Lammardo (Trail Building Coordinator for the FOR Consortium alongside Riccardo Serrato), involving local operators and volunteers across the region. The team prioritized key routes, including the Classic Tour, Base Nato, Isallo Ecstasy, Fast and Furious, Rollercoaster, Toboga di Canova, as well as the classic pedal loops of Pietra Ligure, Monte Grosso, Verezzi, San Bernardino, Feglino, and—where possible—the surrounding areas of Spotorno, Vado Ligure, and Osiglia.

The inspections revealed several critical areas: among the most affected were the entire Base Nato zone and the Madonna della Guardia area, as well as trails like Ingegnere, Super Groppo, and Little Champery. Thanks to swift action, many of these trails were restored and reopened the very next day. With help from the team at Evolv Bike Shop, maintenance was also carried out on Rollercoaster—not damaged by the storm, but in need of a refresh due to heavy usage.

The goal was clear: restore access to as many trails as possible before the following weekend. Mission accomplished! The Base Nato area (except for H Veloce), Ingegnere, Cà Bianca, Super Groppo, Cacciatore, and part of the Ivolandia trails (thanks to Ivo Camilli) were all back in shape.

Work has also begun on the Kill Bill 1 and 2 trails. Unfortunately, Madonna della Guardia will remain closed for the time being due to a collapsed private road near the trail’s end, which currently poses a safety risk.

Special attention was also given to cleaning roads, drainage systems, and trail exits near residential areas, where landslides and water buildup had occurred. Key interventions included: the end section of Cacciatore trail, drain clearing in the Base Nato area, checking water flow at Monte Grosso, fixing the Pian dei Corsi road, and removing debris from trail exits to ensure road safety.

One big positive takeaway: all the trails that had been prepared ahead of the Enduro World Cup held up beautifully, showing just how effective the recent trail work has been.

Trail work never stops, and with summer approaching, the focus will shift to vegetation management and clearing.

A huge thank you to everyone who continues to support our work—trail builders, local governments and associations, and all the operators who help keep our trails in top condition, even in emergencies. And don’t forget: by choosing businesses that participate in the FOR YOU CARD program, you help fund this work—and earn points for some seriously cool rewards in the process!
