LAMIACEAE: BETWEEN NECTAR AND AROMAS
Botanical Walks at Forte San Giovanni
Forte San Giovanni is situated on a panoramic hilltop surrounded by greenery: what better place to deepen your knowledge of plants? Here are the walks designed to introduce you to the wild species found on Becchignolo Hill and the plants in the moat garden of the fort!
With the aim of highlighting the natural environment in which Forte San Giovanni is situated, the Liguria Regional Directorate of National Museums—which guides and coordinates state-run museums and cultural sites in Liguria—is promoting these botanical walks from April through October, in collaboration with the CAI of Finale Ligure. Each walk includes a visit to the Fort and a workshop, with ever-changing themes.
Excursion Program for April 18th:
We depart from Piazza del Tribunale in Finalborgo at 2:30 PM. This first walk is dedicated to the Lamiaceae family, which includes many aromatic and nectar-producing plants, both wild and cultivated. After an introduction to basic botanical characteristics to look for, we’ll dive into the different species with a short walk toward the historic area of Perti, punctuated by botanical explanations. We’ll enter the Fort for a tour and continue our botanical observation in the Moat Garden; we’ll consolidate what we’ve learned with a herbarium and then return to Finalborgo by 5:30–6:00 PM.
- Distance: 3.5 km; Elevation gain: 140 m
- There is a maximum of 25 participants. For further information on the excursion, please contact the guide: tel/WhatsApp 333 877 1184
- The excursion and workshop are included in the cost of the entrance ticket to the Fort: €3.00 full price, €2.00 reduced price, free for under-18s.
